Some of you may be familiar with Undergeared, a group over on the EU servers with the mission of killing all raid content in ilvl200 blues. A few of you upon hearing about them expressed a similar level of interest in attempting such a concept yourselves. I think it may be worth giving it a go. Hear out the proposal, take a few to think it over, and let me know if you are seriously interested in taking a run at this.
The Basic Groundrules-All toons involved must essentially be fresh 80s. No previous raid achievements. No progress towards the "Epic" achievement!
-Your selected class should be something you are relatively unfamiliar with. For altaholics, this may be difficult.
-No epics. Nothing above an ilvl200 blue.
-No epic gems. Blue quality and JC only.
-No enchants involving abyss crystals.
What Would Be Expected of You-Said toon leveled to 80 by June 18th.
-A Wowhead/Chardev/etc profile of your intended gearset/spec by same date.
-A willingness to help optimize your intended gear/spec and others.
-Completion of said gearset, ideally, also by June 18th. That's a over two months from our original onset.
-Leveling of two appropriate professions to highest bonuses available.
-Commitment to raid 2-3 hours a week with full consumables and a working brain.
-A thick skin and a solid amount of patience.
Given that obtaining gear is a non-issue in this, instance lockouts can be extended as long as required. This means we can take on a small number of bosses each week and still make relatively quick progress through what's out there. That means an extremely low time commitment. Combined with a fairly minimal (loot gods of the heroics willing) initial investment, this will not require much out of you beyond stellar raid performance. I would be aiming for a 10 man initially, attempting to clear through normal modes only. If we can accomplish that, who knows?
More than anything, such an undertaking means using your head. A lot of strategies assume things we won't be able to. Many specs/classes don't perform very well at low gear levels (here's looking at you, fury warriors). You should be ready to re-invent the raiding wheel here; using a class you don't know as well in advance may truly be to your advantage as a result, though I'll admit a role you're already used to at the same time is possibly a good idea. This will likely not be easy. That's part of the fun.
So why do it? Because you love a good challenge. Because you want to make some sort of social commentary about "skill > gear". Because if by some miracle we can pull off
Herald of the Titans with it, you know your epeen would grow to enormous size. Because it's there, so why the hell not? Worst case, you get to spend some time watching whatever poor schmuck we get to tank get trashed. Should be a good laugh.
So, if nine (or more) of you are with me, I'll be leveling up a mage or maybe the prot warrior.
